Myrrh (Commipihora myrrha) has a rich, smoky, balsamic aroma that is purifying, restorative, revitalizing, and uplifting. It is a helpful aid to meditation, having one of the highest levels of sesquiterpenes available. Sesquiterpenes are a class of compounds that have a direct effect on the hypothalamus, pituitary, and amygdala, the seat of our emotions. Myrrh is referenced throughout the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. The Arabian people believed it helped wrinkled, chapped, and cracked skin. Today, myrrh is widely used in oral hygiene products.

Essential oils are natural products extracted in a number of ways from plants; however, all plants do not contain essential oils. Essential oils extracted from plants contain aromatic properties used as remedies for a number of problems. Essential oils are used in aromatherapy practice to help ease muscle pain, emotional problems, menstrual issues, skin problems, arthritis and more, Fragrance oils are synthetic products and therefore do not possess the natural healing properties of essential oils. Fragrance oils are essentially a "pleasant" aroma,

Essential Oils are useful in the practice of aromatherapy. Essential oil is not actually an "oil" in the traditional sense of the word. Essential Oils are all natural products derived from the plant (bark, flower, fruit, leaves, root). They can deliver positive benefits to the body. Benefits of essential oil include soothing, calming, stimulating, refreshing, centering, and warming to the system.

Many of the essential oils have multiple uses. For example, the essential oil of

lavender works successfully in relaxation- just by breathing it in, but also is

known for having excellent topical healing powers as well as scar reducing

aspects.

Our sense of smell can be one of the most powerful senses we have. The

olfactory nerve located in the brain is vital to the sense of smell. Together smell

and olfactory work simultaneously to do amazing things for our bodies. Some

examples of this powerhouse combo are: heal our illnesses, set an

atmosphere or mood; and even bring back floods of memories that have been

buried for years.

So, it is safe to say that when it comes to essential oils, the more you

know, the more multiple uses you will have for your essential oil.
